Jakarta. Indonesia’s benchmark stock index slipped on Friday as investors turned cautious ahead of key US inflation data, even as several small-cap names posted outsized gains. The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) edged down 0.09% to close at 8,632.7, shedding 7.43 points.

Trading activity remained robust, with turnover reaching Rp 19.94 trillion ($1.2 billion). Market breadth was mixed: 384 stocks advanced, 308 declined, and 264 were unchanged. Total volume hit 45.9 billion shares across 2.52 million transactions.

Gains in industrial and infrastructure stocks helped cushion the benchmark’s decline. The industrial sector led with a 4.01 percent jump, followed by infrastructure (+3.04 percent), transportation (+2.74 percent), primary consumer goods (+1.84 percent), financials (+1.05 percent), and basic materials (+0.04 percent). Tech shares lagged, falling 0.7 percent, along with energy (-0.69 percent), healthcare (-0.52 percent), non-primary consumer goods (-0.44 percent), and property (-0.17 percent).

Brokerage Pilarmas Sekuritas cited Indonesia’s stronger foreign reserves, which rose to US$150.1 billion in November from US$149.9 billion a month earlier, as a supporting catalyst. Still, the firm noted Asian equities were broadly mixed as global markets braced for the delayed release of the US Personal Consumption Expenditures index, the Federal Reserve’s preferred inflation gauge.

Investors are also monitoring geopolitical risks after US President Donald Trump signaled action against Venezuelan armed groups involved in narcotics smuggling, an added source of uncertainty given Venezuela’s role as a major oil producer.

Despite the mild JCI decline, several stocks delivered eye-catching single-day gains. Prashida Aneka Niaga (PSDN) surged 34.91 percent to Rp 143, Millennium Pharmacon International (SDPC) soared 34.78 percent to Rp 186, and Teknologi Karya Digital Nusa (TRON) jumped 34.75 percent to Rp 159. Era Media Sejahtera (DOOH) and Ketrosden Triasmitra (KETR) each rallied 25 percent.

Globally, equity sentiment was steadier. US futures inched higher, Europe opened firmer, and Asian markets traded cautiously ahead of US inflation data and China’s major economic releases scheduled for next week. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index recovered from morning losses, adding 0.6 percent to 26,085.08, while the Shanghai Composite index rose nearly 0.7 percent to 3,902.81.
