Jakarta. Jakarta Composite Index rose 0.37%, or 24 points, to 6,525 on Friday, as a sharply narrower balance of payments deficit and plans to remove the minimum share price boosted domestic sentiment, offsetting concerns over Wall Street volatility, rising oil prices, and the US-Iran conflict.

The index moved between 6,507 and 6,551 during the session. Trading volume reached 53.24 billion shares, with turnover totaling Rp 17 trillion ($961.52 million) across more than 2.24 million transactions. A total of 319 stocks gained, while 294 declined and 178 remained unchanged.

Pilarmas Investindo Sekuritas said most Asian markets moved higher as investors responded to fresh economic data from Japan and awaited a key policy meeting in China.

South Korea's Kospi climbed 0.9%, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 1.1%. The Shanghai Composite rose less than 0.1%, although Japan's Nikkei slipped 0.3%.

Japan's S&P Global Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index rose to 55.1 in August 2026 from 54.5 in the previous month, marking the eighth straight month of expansion in factory activity.

Pilarmas said this marked the strongest growth in Japan's manufacturing sector since April, as companies recorded their fastest increase in new orders since January 2018. Overseas sales also expanded at their strongest pace since early 2018.

Investors are now turning their attention to China, where the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress is scheduled to meet in Beijing from Aug. 25 to 28. Markets are hoping for further policy guidance following a string of weak economic data for July.

Global sentiment, however, remained clouded by volatility on Wall Street as concerns grew over elevated long-term US Treasury yields. High government borrowing costs have weighed on the broader economy and equity markets after years of elevated inflation and government spending.

Oil prices also extended their gains as the US prepared to impose sweeping new economic sanctions on Iran amid an escalating dispute over the Strait of Hormuz.

The proposed measures are expected to further isolate Iran from international financial and commercial channels, including banks, businesses, ship registrations, cash transfers, and smuggling networks. Washington is seeking to intensify economic pressure on Tehran and push it toward negotiations over the conflict, its nuclear program, and control of the strategic waterway.

On the domestic front, Bank Indonesia said the country's balance of payments remained resilient in the second quarter despite persistent global uncertainty.

Indonesia recorded a $0.9 billion balance of payments deficit in the April-June period, sharply narrower than the $9.1 billion deficit in the first quarter.

Investors also turned their attention to the Indonesia Stock Exchange's plan to scrap the Rp 50 minimum share price, a move aimed at improving liquidity and market efficiency.

The minimum price, introduced more than a decade ago to protect investors from sharp price declines, has been criticized by investors for distorting trading in low-priced stocks.

Removing the floor would allow share prices to better reflect supply and demand and forms part of broader efforts to strengthen liquidity in Indonesia's equity market. However, the move could also increase speculative trading in low-priced shares.
