Jakarta. Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono has revealed that 94.2 percent of national roads across Indonesia are in good condition ahead of the 2024 Eid al-Fitr homecoming rush.

"Our national roads span 47,600 kilometers with a readiness of 94.2 percent," said Basuki during a meeting on the preparation for the 2024 Eid al-Fitr homecoming with the House of Representatives at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday.

Basuki stated that national roads on Java Island, totaling 6,500 km, are ready for use with a readiness rate of 97.23 percent. Meanwhile, national road sections on the Bali Toll Road spanning 589.6 km have a readiness rate of 99.55 percent, and on Sumatra spanning 13,417 km, the readiness rate is 95.15 percent.

Furthermore, national roads on Kalimantan Island, totaling 8,000 km, have a readiness rate of 92.27 percent. Similarly, national roads on Sulawesi Island, spanning 8,794 km, have a readiness rate of 95.82 percent.

The Ministry has also conducted repairs on national roads, including in Demak, Karanganyar Sub-District, due to flooding from February to March 2024, covering a stretch of 1.8 km on four lanes of the Semarang-Demak road.

In this regard, the Ministry of PUPR will continue to coordinate with the Transportation Ministry, the Traffic Police Corps, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the Toll Road Business Entity (BUJT), and relevant ministries/agencies (K/L) to prepare ground transportation infrastructure ahead of the 2024 Eid al-Fitr homecoming.

"As in previous years, the task of the Ministry of PUPR is to prepare ground transportation infrastructure, including roads and bridges, for the Eid al-Fitr homecoming," Basuki emphasized.

The Transportation Ministry forecasts that 193.6 million individuals, approximately 71.7 percent of the nation's populace, will partake in the Eid exodus this year, marking a significant 50 percent rise from last year's exodus.

The majority of the population movement during Eid homecoming will be directed toward Java Island, with the three largest destinations being Central Java with 61.6 million people, East Java with 37.6 million people, and West Java with 32.1 million people.
