Jakarta. Indonesia’s annual inflation eased slightly to 3.23% in October 2026 from 3.28% in September, with food, transportation and personal care costs remaining the biggest contributors to rising consumer prices, Central Statistics Indonesia (BPS) reported on Monday.

The October figure remained within the government’s annual inflation target of 2.5% ± 1%.

“The annual inflation rate in October 2026 stood at 3.23%, with the consumer price index rising from 109.04 in October 2025 to 112.56 in October 2026,” BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics Ateng Hartono said during a hybrid press conference at the agency’s headquarters.

All provinces recorded annual inflation, with North Sulawesi posting the highest rate at 8.07%, while Jakarta had the lowest at 2.52%.

By expenditure group, food, beverages and tobacco contributed the most to annual inflation, with prices rising 4.82% and adding 1.4 percentage points to the overall rate.

Ateng said the main contributors within the group included bird's eye chilli, fresh fish, rice, cooking oil, broiler chicken, machine-made kretek cigarettes and beef.

Transportation was the second-largest contributor, recording 4.87% annual inflation and adding 0.59 percentage points. The increase was driven by higher prices for gasoline, airfares, engine lubricants, motorcycles, vehicle maintenance services and cars.

Meanwhile, the personal care and other services group recorded 4.52% inflation, contributing 0.32 percentage points to the annual rate, largely due to rising gold jewelry prices.

“Gold jewelry prices continued to record annual inflation,” Ateng said.

All three inflation components recorded annual increases in October, with core inflation making the largest contribution.

Core inflation stood at 2.56%, contributing 1.64 percentage points to the overall rate. Major contributors included gold jewelry, cooking oil, rice with side dishes, mobile phones, laptops, notebooks and engine lubricants.

Administered prices rose 3.24% year-on-year, adding 0.63 percentage points to inflation. The main contributors were gasoline, airfares, machine-made kretek cigarettes and household fuels.

Volatile food prices recorded the highest inflation rate among the three components, rising 5.81% and contributing 0.96 percentage points.
