Jakarta. Indonesia and Thailand have agreed to raise bilateral trade to $20 billion by 2030, unveiling a new strategic partnership roadmap following the first visit by a Thai prime minister to Indonesia in 15 years.

President Prabowo Subianto announced the target after meeting Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday.

"Economic cooperation remains the cornerstone of our bilateral relationship. We are confident that the $20 billion trade target by 2030 can be achieved through the implementation of our strategic partnership roadmap," Prabowo said.

The two leaders adopted the Indonesia–Thailand Strategic Partnership Roadmap, which will guide bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors over the next four years.

The roadmap builds on agreements reached during the leaders' meeting on the sidelines of the 2026 ASEAN Summit in Cebu, the Philippines, in May and formalizes commitments pursued through the two countries' Leaders' Consultation mechanism since 2025.

On the economic front, Indonesia and Thailand agreed to expand investment, improve market access, and strengthen partnerships between businesses in both countries.

The two governments also agreed to establish a Joint Trade Commission, the first bilateral mechanism of its kind between Indonesia and Thailand, to identify new business opportunities and address trade barriers.

"We also agreed to strengthen cooperation on food security, covering agricultural technology, logistics, food processing, and supply chain resilience," Prabowo said.

The two countries will also promote an Indonesia-Thailand Energy Forum to enhance energy security and accelerate the transition to sustainable energy.

In addition, Indonesia and Thailand pledged to deepen cooperation in the digital economy, including wider use of local currency transactions (LCT) to improve the efficiency of trade and investment.

Prabowo said the two countries could also leverage their respective strengths in the halal industry to help build regional and global halal value chains.

Anutin expressed confidence that economic ties would continue to strengthen, citing the combined market potential of about 350 million people.

"We agree that Thailand and Indonesia have enormous potential to expand bilateral trade and investment," he said.
