Indonesia Sets $315 Billion Export Target for 2026, Eyes $406 Billion by 2029
Jakarta. Indonesia’s trade outlook remains optimistic, with the government projecting steady export growth through 2029 despite a slight dip in the growth rate for 2026.
Trade Minister Budi Santoso said the government is targeting a 7.09 percent expansion in exports next year, slightly below the 7.1 percent growth expected in 2025. The minor slowdown reflects a higher starting point following significant export gains in recent years, according to Budi.
“Last year’s export target was 7.1 percent, so the slight dip to 7.09 percent next year is not a sign of weakness,” Budi told reporters in Jakarta on Friday.
He expressed confidence that the 2025 growth target would be met, citing January–October export figures that reached 6.96 percent. In value terms, Indonesia’s exports are expected to total $294 billion in 2025, while the 2026 target stands at $315 billion.
Despite the modest slowdown next year, the Trade Ministry anticipates a rebound in the following years, with a clear acceleration projected through 2029:
-
2025: $294.44 billion (7.10 percent)
-
2026: $315.31 billion (7.09 percent)
-
2027: $340.20 billion (7.89 percent)
-
2028: $370.04 billion (8.77 percent)
-
2029: $405.69 billion (9.64 percent)
Budi emphasized that Indonesia is pursuing these targets step by step. “We aim for $405 billion in exports by 2029. This year is $294 billion, next year $315 billion, and we will continue progressing gradually,” he said.
To achieve these ambitious goals, the Ministry is working closely with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and the Indonesian Exporters Association (GPEI) to facilitate business matchmaking and forums. These initiatives aim to help companies maximize the benefits of Indonesia’s international trade agreements.
