Jakarta. Indonesia’s B50 biodiesel has reached 90% of fuel stations operated by state-owned energy company Pertamina as the government pushes for nationwide availability by Oct. 1, an Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry official said on Monday.

B50 is diesel blended with 50% vegetable-based biofuel, primarily derived from palm oil.

Director General of Renewable Energy Eniya Listiani Dewi said B50 distribution across all fuel stations nationwide currently stands at around 75%-80%, while coverage at Pertamina outlets has reached 90%.

“B50 distribution across all fuel stations is between 75% and 80%, but at Pertamina outlets it has already reached 90%,” Eniya said.

The government is targeting 100% availability at fuel stations across Indonesia by Oct. 1.

Eniya said authorities would continue monitoring and evaluating the program, as the implementation of B50 needs to be carefully managed to minimize potential risks, including engine problems and inefficiencies.

“We will see how things develop over the next month while continuing our monitoring,” she said.

Indonesia officially implemented its mandatory B50 biodiesel program in July 2026 as part of efforts to reduce carbon emissions, strengthen national energy security, and eliminate dependence on imported diesel.

The government says Indonesia is the first country in the world to mandate a 50% vegetable-based biofuel blend in diesel. The policy represents the latest stage in the country’s gradual expansion of its biodiesel mandate, following the implementation of B30, B35, and B40 blends.

The B50 program is projected to save Indonesia around Rp 170 trillion ($9.6 billion) in foreign exchange in 2026 alone by eliminating diesel imports.

The government also expects the program to increase the value added of Indonesia’s crude palm oil industry and generate around 2.1 million new jobs.
