Indonesia Confident of Meeting 16 Million Foreign Tourist Target in 2025
Jakarta. Indonesia is on track to meet its target of 16 million foreign tourist arrivals this year, supported by strong growth in both international and domestic travel, Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana said on Friday.
According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), foreign arrivals reached 11.43 million by the end of the third quarter of 2025, while domestic tourism surged to 901.9 million trips. The tourism sector has also been a major driver of the national economy, which grew 5.04 percent year-on-year in the same period.
“Four tourism-related industries recorded some of the highest growth rates. This reaffirms that tourism is not just a supporting sector, but a key pillar of Indonesia’s economic engine,” Widiyanti said in a statement.
The four fastest-growing sectors include:
- Travel agencies and tour services, up 9.94 percent;
- Entertainment and recreation services, up 9.92 percent;
- Transportation and warehousing, up 8.62 percent, driven by increased air, sea, and land travel; and
- Accommodation, food, and beverages, up 8.41 percent.
Widiyanti said the government remains optimistic about achieving 16 million international arrivals and 1.08 billion domestic trips by year-end.
To sustain momentum, the Tourism Ministry has launched the national campaign “Saatnya Liburan #DiIndonesiaAja” (“It’s Vacation Time #InIndonesiaOnly”) and continued the Kharisma Event Nusantara (KEN) series, which features flagship cultural and tourism festivals across the archipelago through the end of the year.
“We are collaborating with regional governments, industry players, and creative communities to design attractive, sustainable travel packages. This campaign also fosters a sense of pride and love for local destinations,” Widiyanti said.
Earlier this week, Indonesia showcased its creative economy and tourism potential at the World Travel Market (WTM) London 2025, under the global theme “Go Beyond Ordinary.” The delegation highlighted Indonesia’s renewed tourism identity -- focusing on quality, sustainability, and local wisdom -- as part of the country’s strategy to strengthen global partnerships and attract high-value travelers.
