How Low Can They Go? GoTo, MNC Group Shares Fall Below Rp50
Jakarta. Indonesian stocks fell sharply on Monday as the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) lowered its minimum share price to Rp1 ($0.00006) from Rp50, allowing stocks to trade at prices previously prohibited under the exchange's rules.
Several low-priced stocks plunged 14% in the first trading session, including MNC Kapital Indonesia (BCAP), MDTV Media Technologies (NETV) and Lippo Karawaci (LPKR), which each fell to Rp43.
Shares of MNC Tourism Indonesia (KPIG), Bank MNC Internasional (BABP) and GoTo Gojek Tokopedia (GOTO) also dropped 14% to Rp43.
The benchmark Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) fell 60.45 points, or 0.97%, to 6,181.43 by the midday break, after moving between 6,174 and 6,227.
Most sectors declined, led by technology stocks, which fell 4.1%. Non-primary consumer goods dropped 2.73%, infrastructure stocks fell 1.62%, basic materials declined 1.48% and property stocks lost 1.34%.
Energy and industrial stocks each gained 0.79%, while transportation stocks rose 0.37%.
Phintraco Sekuritas said investors were closely watching the new trading rules, which took effect Monday and cut the minimum share price on the regular and cash markets to Rp1 from Rp50.
Under the new rules, stocks priced between Rp1 and Rp10 are subject to a Rp1 limit for both the upper and lower auto-rejection thresholds.
For stocks priced above Rp10, the asymmetric 15% lower auto-rejection, or ARB, limit will remain in effect through Dec. 31, 2026. The exchange will restore a symmetrical ARB mechanism from Jan. 1, 2027.
The exchange has also removed four criteria from its Special Monitoring Board, which uses a Full Call Auction mechanism. As a result, 92 stocks previously placed under those criteria have returned to their original listing boards.
Phintraco Sekuritas said the changes could alter trading patterns and liquidity, particularly among low-priced stocks.
"Investors need to monitor price movements and liquidity following the implementation of the new rules," the brokerage said.
