Jakarta. Daikin has begun mass distribution of its first locally manufactured residential air conditioners from its new West Java factory.

The company’s Indonesian unit, Daikin Airconditioning Indonesia, shipped its first 2,000 units of the “Nusantara Prestige” series this month from its Cikarang facility, which Daikin says is its first full-scale residential AC production hub in the country.

The factory, built with an investment of Rp 3.3 trillion ($206 million), is designed to handle the entire production chain locally, from raw materials to finished units, aiming to reach a 40 percent local component level (TKDN) by next year.

“Indonesia is a key market, and we see growing demand for AC units designed to handle local challenges such as voltage fluctuations and humidity,” Daikin Indonesia Director Budi Mulia said on Monday..

Daikin’s Indonesian facility aims to produce up to 1.5 million AC units annually by mid-2025, with the potential to employ 2,500 workers. The company is also eyeing the Philippines and other Southeast Asian markets for exports by early 2027.

The Nusantara Prestige line includes two inverter models and one standard model, each designed to handle Indonesia’s often unstable electricity supply. The models come with protections against voltage drops and surges, and feature anti-corrosion coatings to withstand humid conditions.
