Chery Tops Electric Vehicle Sales in H1 2024 with Omoda 5
Jakarta. Chinese automaker Chery led electric vehicle sales in the first half of 2024, with the Omoda 5 becoming a favorite among Indonesians and surpassing competitors from Wuling and South Korea's Hyundai.
According to the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), the Omoda 5 was the best-selling car, with 2,642 units sold. The Omoda E5, Chery's first electric vehicle sold in Indonesia, is locally assembled using the completely knock-down (CKD) method at the HIM plant in Bekasi, West Java. The vehicle features a 61 kWh battery, delivering 204 hp and a range of up to 700 km on a full charge.
Second place went to another Chinese brand, Wuling. The Wuling Binguo Premium Range, with its 120 km range, proved popular. Third place also went to Wuling, with the Cloud EV selling 1,547 units.
Fourth place was held by another Chinese brand, Morris Garage (MG), with the 4 EV Magnify selling 1,186 units. Fifth place went to the Wuling Binguo Standard Range, with 1,124 units sold.
Hyundai's Ioniq 5 ranked sixth, with 606 units sold.
