ASEAN Power Sector Stakeholders to Gather in Indonesia This November
Jakarta. Power sector stakeholders across the ASEAN region are slated to assemble in Indonesia this November for a three-day forum and exhibition that focus on driving the bloc’s energy transition.
The Indonesian Electrical Power Society (MKI) is back hosting the 78th National Electricity Day.
But this time, it will jointly take place with the 2023 Enlit Asia, an annual conference that brings the end-to-end power and energy value chain together.
The joint event will gather stakeholders from ASEAN’s power and energy sector, ranging from technology providers, and engineering consultants, to investors committed to clean energy.
“We hope we can contribute to accelerating the energy transition in ASEAN, especially in Indonesia, by encouraging the use and development of clean energy technologies,” MKI secretary-general Arsyadany G Akmalaputri told a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday evening.
According to Arsyadany, ASEAN still largely relies on fossil fuels for power generation. ASEAN is also highly susceptible to climate change, which can take a toll on the region’s economy.
“ASEAN is a strategic region with robust economic growth. Energy demand will likely increase. But we need a joint effort, so ASEAN members can decarbonize without sacrificing economic growth. Since we are still recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic impact,” Arsyadany said.
“By exchanging ideas and collaborating, we can bring down the costs of clean energy solutions,” Arsyadany said.
Over 350 exhibitors, both from home and abroad, will showcase their energy transition-related innovations such as smart grids, carbon capture, and storage, to name a few.
“Indonesian companies need to take this opportunity to showcase what we have done so far in the energy transition. For instance, biomass and co-firing technologies. I’m pretty sure that other ASEAN countries would like to know more [about our technologies],” MKI business unit director Bakti S Luddin said.
The 78th National Electricity Day-2023 Enlit Asia will take place on Nov 14-16 at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD City. The event aims to amass 12,000 visitors from across the ASEAN region.
