Jakarta. Gold prices at state-owned miner Antam rebounded into positive territory on Friday, Jan. 2, recovering from the previous session’s decline as global bullion strengthened and investors reassessed geopolitical risks.

Data from Logam Mulia showed Antam’s gold price rose Rp 16,000 to Rp 2,504,000 ($149.76) per gram on Friday, reversing a Rp 13,000 drop a day earlier that had taken prices to Rp 2,488,000 per gram.

Antam gold remains below its all-time high of Rp 2,605,000 per gram, recorded on Dec. 27, 2025.

Antam’s buyback price also increased by Rp 16,000 to Rp 2,363,000 per gram.

On the international market, spot gold climbed to $4,375.31 per ounce, up $46.71 or 1.08% as of 11 p.m. New York time on Jan. 1, according to goldprice.org.

Commodity market analyst Ibrahim Assuaibi said the late-2025 correction in gold prices was largely driven by profit-taking ahead of the year-end. He noted that investors are now watching early-2026 market direction amid persistent geopolitical risks.

“Geopolitical tensions remain elevated between Iran and Israel in the Middle East, the Russia–Ukraine conflict in Europe, and potential escalation in the Taiwan Strait. These conditions prompted profit-taking,” Ibrahim said in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.

He added that the average global gold price throughout 2025 stood at around $3,582 per troy ounce, with the gap between the year’s low and high reaching $1,936 per ounce—equivalent to a roughly 57% increase over the year.

Looking ahead, strategists at UBS project gold prices could break $5,000 per troy ounce by September 2026. The Swiss bank also sees rising geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty surrounding the US midterm elections as potential drivers pushing prices toward the $5,400 per ounce range.
