Special needs children and their parents commemorated International Day of Persons With Disabilities at the National Monument in Central Jakarta on Sunday evening.

The event was arranged by the Saraswati Learning Center, a nongovernmental organization that provides education and training to disabled children and their parents. It has helped educate more than 60 children with special needs since 2016.

Founder Reshma Bhojwani – whose child has Down syndrome – launched the "Jakarta Inclusive" campaign to raise awareness and eliminate the stigma often associated with people with disabilities.

The campaign's main aim was to encourage Jakarta residents to be more accepting of people with disabilities regardless of race, religion or background.
