Tanah Sirah Kitchen Feeds Flood Victims Following School Closures
Padang. The Tanah Sirah public kitchen in Padang, West Sumatra, is now cooking for the flood survivors following disaster-induced school closures.
This public kitchen usually cooks for students as part of the nationwide free meal program. However, the local government has instructed the closure of elementary and junior high schools following the floods.
"Between Nov. 27-28, we have redirected the meals to the flood victims in Padang," Tanah Sirah kitchen head Agung Sajdah was quoted by state news agency Antara.
On Nov. 27, the Tanah Sirah kitchen had distributed 1,200 meals to the Ikua Koto community health center in Koto Tangah. They rolled out 1,500 dry, longer-lasting meals and 1,500 meals with high moisture content to the disaster post in the Lubuk Minturun area.
They may follow a similar plan on Monday. If vocational high school students return to school on Monday, the meals will go to the students. The meals will be diverted to flood victims if schools remain closed.
