Jakarta. Festival Film Indonesia (FFI) has officially opened up registration for the Citra Awards.

There are also some major changes to the requirements at this year's Indonesian "Oscars". The festival will accept films that have been shown at cinemas, alternative screenings, streaming platforms, or film festivals between Sep. 1, 2025, and August 31, 2026. They have also renamed the "Best Theme Song Creator" category to "Best Original Theme Song Creator" to encourage film songwriters.

The 2026 FFI Awards will accept all film submissions and critics from June 18 to August 31. via https://www.festivalfilm.id/pendaftaran-film.

The selection and judging process is scheduled to begin on Sep. 1,

They will wrap up the event with the Citra Award Night on Nov. 20.

The committee has also appointed Nirina Zubir and Morgan Oey as the 2026 FFI Ambassadors.

Nirina is a two-time Citra winner for Best Leading Actress. Morgan was nominated for the best leading actor for the 2025 FFI Awards.

The presence of these two actors, with solid track records in the Indonesian film industry, is expected to serve as a strong bridge of communication between the committee, industry players, and the wider Indonesian film community.

"Through film, people's experiences are recorded, cultural diversity is celebrated, and humanitarian values ​​are passed on to the next generation," Culture Minister Fadli Zon said.

The Indonesian Film Board (BPI) also expressed support for the event.

"This is part of a joint effort to build a healthy and sustainable film ecosystem," BPI chair Fauzan Zidni said.

FFI Committee chair Ario Bayu was also upbeat of where the national film industry is heading.

"The number of Indonesian films, with diverse stories and genres, showing in cinemas over the past year has increased compared to the previous period. We saw two Indonesian films last year reach over 10 million viewers. For me, this isn't just about numbers. It's a sign that Indonesian audiences are increasingly trusting the stories that come from this country," he said.
