Jakarta. Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) concluded the year 2024 with a strong record of operational performance.

Amid increasingly complex challenges in the global shipping industry, PIS’s fleet delivered outstanding results through cost efficiency, enhanced operational reliability, and consistently upheld safety standards.

PIS currently owns 102 tankers, managed in an integrated manner to ensure safe and timely energy distribution across both domestic and international routes, as of 2024.

As the backbone of fuel and LPG distribution in Indonesia, PIS successfully transported a total of 161 billion liters of fuel and LPG over the past year. This achievement underscores PIS's commitment to supporting national energy security while meeting consumer demand for efficient, professional, and reliable service.

“Our commitment is to ensure smooth national energy distribution through a reliable and efficient fleet. Thanks to the synergy between all functions and ship crews, PIS achieved solid and measurable operational performance,” said Muhammad Irfan Zainul Fikri, the director of the fleet at PIS.

Another notable achievement was the significant reduction in transport loss. In 2024, cargo loss during shipment was successfully reduced to 0.009 percent, down 87.1 percent decrease compared to the previous year’s 0.070 percent. This accomplishment was the result of strengthened cargo monitoring systems and improved onboard operational procedures.

Operational cost efficiency also showed marked progress. The owned-vessel daily cost compliance rate reached 113 percent, surpassing the target -- indicating that the average daily operational costs were more efficient than projected.

Beyond efficiency, safety and compliance with international regulations remain top priorities. A total of 74 PIS tankers have passed the Ship Inspection Report Programme (SIRE), with an average observation score of 3.93 and a Tanker Management and Self-Assessment (TMSA) score of 3.00.

In 2024, the Fleet Directorate also implemented several development initiatives, including the addition of 10 new vessels -- among them, four Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGCs) -- and the enhancement of crew capacity through training programs and collaborations with various maritime stakeholders.

Irfan added that PIS’s performance reflects a focus not only on operational scale, but also on quality and strong governance.

"This is a tangible form of our commitment to sustainable growth and delivering the best service to ensure safe and smooth energy transport across the nation. Furthermore, our continuous improvement efforts also prioritize digital culture, with ship crews actively using the Venus App to update personal and certification data online. Digitalization has also been implemented onboard through sensor-based data recording, which is transmitted to the office to provide insights for management decision-making,” Irfan said.

To strengthen its global presence, PIS officially joined international maritime organizations such as the International Association of Independent Tanker Owners (INTERTANKO) and the Society of International Gas Tankers and Terminal Operators (SIGTTO). In terms of crew management and well-being, PIS has also partnered with ITF and IMEC since 2023. These memberships provide access to global best practices and enhance PIS’s reputation in international markets.

With these achievements, PIS continues to reinforce its position as a major player in the energy logistics chain -- both nationally and globally. Through efficiency, safety, and sustainability, PIS forges ahead as a pioneer in energy shipping.
