Migrant Worker Protection Ministry Sends Aid to Flood-Hit Communities in Sumatra
Jakarta. The Ministry for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KemenP2MI) has delivered aid to residents affected by severe flooding in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.
The assistance, gathered through both internal and external fundraising efforts, will be distributed to disaster victims through the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB).
The relief package includes food, drinks, clothing, daily necessities, tents, and rubber boats.
Mukhtarudin, the Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, said the aid reflects the ministry’s concern for communities impacted by the disaster.
“As a form of solidarity with our communities in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, we collected donations from staff, partners, and stakeholders. These contributions, both in goods and cash, will be distributed through BNPB,” Minister Mukhtarudin said during a press conference at the KemenP2MI office on Friday.
He also expressed gratitude to all donors and conveyed his condolences to the victims of the disaster in Sumatra.
“We extend our sincere thanks to all donors. We also express our deep sympathy and condolences to our brothers and sisters in the three provinces. May those who lost their lives be granted a noble place by Allah SWT, and may their families be given strength,” he said.
Minister Mukhtarudin further urged the public to remain vigilant amid unpredictable weather conditions.
“Communities in disaster-prone areas should remain alert and follow government instructions or guidance from relevant technical agencies,” he said.
In addition to public assistance, support is also being provided to four KemenP2MI employees whose homes were affected by the flooding.
The minister again reminded residents, especially those in vulnerable regions, to stay alert as extreme weather is expected to continue over the coming days.
“Always follow instructions from local governments and BNPB or BPBD for everyone’s safety,” he said.
The P2MI Ministry’s contribution adds to the growing wave of solidarity from various ministries, agencies, state-owned enterprises, and the public seeking to support disaster victims across Sumatra.
“We hope this assistance can help ease the burden on affected communities, whether for food, drinking water, or daily needs,” Minister Mukhtarudin concluded.
