Mangkunegaran Run 2026 Elevates Solo as Global Sport Tourism Hub
Jakarta. The Mangkunegaran Run 2026 is set to return to Solo on May 3 as part of the 269th anniversary of Mangkunegaran, reinforcing its status as a leading sport tourism event with growing international recognition.
Now in its fourth year, the race has achieved a key milestone with route certification from World Athletics, ensuring global standards in race quality and measurement.
Mangkunegaran ruler KGPAA Mangkoenagoro X said the certification is critical to maintaining the integrity of the competition.
“This certification ensures accurate course distances, safe running surfaces to reduce injury risk, and international recognition, which is essential for validating world records and official race times,” he said.
Public enthusiasm for the event has continued to grow sharply. From around 4,000 participants at its inaugural edition in 2023, this year’s race is expected to draw 7,750 runners across 5K, 10K, and half-marathon categories.
Solo Mayor Respati Adi said the growth reflects the event’s evolution into both a lifestyle and a defining element of the city’s identity.
“Mangkunegaran Run is not just about running — it’s about experiencing Solo’s rich cultural atmosphere. Participants will pass through historic sites, allowing them to engage with the city’s identity while taking part in the race,” he said.
The event is also projected to deliver significant economic benefits. Data from the Katadata Insight Center estimates the race could generate up to Rp 40 billion ($2.3 million) for the local economy. With average spending per participant reaching Rp 2.5 million on accommodation and food, small and medium enterprises are expected to see revenue increases of up to 103%.
Beyond economic impact, the event continues to position itself as a platform that combines sport, culture, and tourism, while expanding Solo’s visibility on a broader stage.
This year’s edition also highlights environmental sustainability through a partnership with Permata Bank. Under its “One Mission to Green the Earth” initiative, the total distance covered by participants will be converted into a tree-planting program, targeting 5,000 trees in Bukit Tigapuluh, Jambi, to help protect the endangered Sumatran elephant habitat.
Permata Bank President Director Meliza M. Rusli said the initiative reflects a broader commitment to delivering positive social and environmental impact.
“Our participation in Mangkunegaran Run 2026 is part of our effort to support an ecosystem that brings together economic activity, culture, and community through sport, while creating a multiplier effect for the local economy,” she said.
