Gold Trading on Futures Exhange Rises in Popularity
Jakarta. Purchasing physical gold digitally through the Futures Exchange has soared in popularity among Indonesians, the Indonesia Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (ICDX).
Throughout 2025, the digital physical gold trading volume on the ICDX stood at 58,654,322 grams, up 25.20% year-on-year (yoy) compared to 46,849,357 grams in 2024. Digital physical gold trading on the ICDX stood at Rp 115.6 trillion in value throughout 2025. This marks a 101.04% increase compared to Rp 57.5 trillion the previous year.
Universitas Islam Nusantara Bandung economist Yoyok Prasetyo said that the growth marked a positive development for the investment world.
"Investing in gold purchased digitally is an alternative way to enrich people's investment portfolios. The next task for stakeholders in this ecosystem is to continue public outreach and education, particularly regarding transaction security. This is crucial because people view transaction security as a crucial aspect of their investment decisions," Yoyok said.
ICDX Director Nursalam attributed the growing public interest to the practicality.
"People who want to buy gold don't need to visit a gold sales outlet; they can simply use a smartphone app. Second, it's a positive impact of digitalization, which has impacted all sectors of life, including gold purchases. Third, the younger generation, or Gen Z, who are employed and have their own income, are starting to invest in gold digitally at a value they can afford," Nursalam said.
"Seeing this positive trend, we hope that transaction volume will grow by around 30% in 2026," he said.
ICDX remains committed to improving its services to stakeholders. The system is also under Commodity Futures Trading Regulatory Agency or Bappebti's supervision. ICDX also partners with the Indonesia Clearing House to act as a guarantee and settlement institution, as well as the depository institution to store the digitally traded gold.
In 2025, Bappebti has alread issued the regulations on the procedures for digital physical gold trading on futures exchange.
