Freeport Indonesia Honored by ITB for Advancing Mining Education
Bandung. Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) has been honored with the Ganesa Wirya Jasa Adiutama Award from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), recognizing its long-term partnership with ITB’s Faculty of Mining and Petroleum Engineering in advancing education, research, and talent development in Indonesia’s mining and energy sectors.
“It is a great honor for us to receive the Ganesa Wirya Jasa Adiutama Award. This achievement reflects PTFI’s commitment to contributing to the development of globally competitive national expertise,” said PTFI President Director Tony Wenas after receiving the award at ITB, Bandung, on Thursday.
PTFI’s contributions have included supporting internships, final projects, and dissertations for 60 students, providing field data to facilitate the graduation of many students across academic levels. Signature initiatives such as the Papuan Bridge Program have opened access to higher education at ITB for Papuan youth, providing research funding and scholarships for Papuan students in 2022.
Academically, PTFI has actively supported programs like the International Student Mining Competition and scientific seminars while funding six research topics in 2023, ensuring a dynamic learning environment aligned with industry advancements.
“This year, we have expanded our strategic partnership through the ITB Pre-University Inspiration Class for Papuan scholarship recipients, helping broaden opportunities and competitiveness for higher education,” Tony added.
The award was presented directly by ITB Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Tatacipta Dirgantara, M.T., during the Open Session commemorating the 105th Anniversary of Technical Higher Education in Indonesia, held at the West Hall of ITB’s Ganesha Campus.
On behalf of ITB, Dr. A. Rikrik Kusmara, Vice Rector for Communication, Partnership, Alumni, and Administration, congratulated the award recipients, expressing hope that these recognitions will further strengthen the advancement of technical higher education in Indonesia and inspire continued contributions to the nation’s progress.
PTFI’s collaboration with ITB underscores its commitment to empowering Indonesian talent while ensuring the mining sector’s growth aligns with the nation’s educational and technological aspirations. This partnership reflects PTFI’s vision of building a sustainable future through investment in people, knowledge, and innovation.
