Empowering Women: Tassuki Showcases Indonesian Craftmanship in Japan
Tokyo. Indonesian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are increasingly reaching international markets, including Japan. One such event supporting this effort is the Tokyo Big Show 2024, a platform for Indonesian SMEs to showcase their products in Japan.
Among the participants is Tassuki, a Yogyakarta-based SME that empowers women and the elderly to create handcrafted products. Managed by Erna Yulianti, Tassuki blends natural fabrics with functional items such as bags, cloths, and prayer mats.
"We're interested in joining the exhibition in Japan to introduce our products more internationally," said Erna Yulianti on Friday.
Erna added that the international event, which draws around 350,000 visitors daily, will provide valuable insights for Indonesian SMEs.
“Tassuki hopes that by participating in this international-scale exhibition, we can offer not only high-quality products but also those with significant added value,” she explained.
Separately, Mohamad Riffana, Director of the Indonesia Investment Promotion Centre (IIPC) at the Investment Ministry/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), expressed his support for initiatives promoting Indonesian SMEs.
"The Ministry fully supports and hope that Indonesian SMEs can grow, develop, and advance to the global stage," Riffana said.
As part of this support, the Ministry has established the Directorate of Business Empowerment, which facilitates interaction with SMEs.
Further support comes from House of Handicraft in Tokyo (HHT), which promotes made in Indonesia products through exhibitions and serves as a bridge to the Japanese market.
“We are constantly seeking the best ways to support SMEs. This business is vital, especially for our SMEs. If the ministry has supported SMEs, they might join us. With a neutral position, we believe unity will accelerate future progress,” said Richard Susilo, President of Office Promosi Ltd., Tokyo.
This year, 12 SMEs, including one state-owned enterprise, are participating in the exhibition, showcasing products like bags, wallets, accessories, and handicrafts.
