Jakarta. Anggoro Eko Cahyo, president director of PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BSI), has been named Sharia Banking Transformation Leader of the Year, recognizing his leadership in steering Indonesia’s largest Islamic lender through a period of strong growth and accelerated digital transformation.

Less than a year into his tenure, Anggoro has overseen solid business performance at BSI, with key financial indicators posting double-digit growth above industry averages while maintaining healthy asset quality. The bank has also advanced a broad-based transformation, particularly in digitalization, positioning itself as a leading player in Indonesia’s Islamic finance ecosystem.

BSI reported net profit of Rp 5.57 trillion ($360 million) in the first nine months of 2025. The performance was supported by asset growth to Rp 416 trillion, financing of Rp 300.85 trillion, and third-party funds (DPK) of Rp 348 trillion, up 15.66 percent year-on-year.

Gold-related services and hajj savings have emerged as BSI’s main growth engines. Since the government launched its bullion banking initiative on Feb. 26, 2025, BSI’s gold business has surged 72.82 percent year-on-year to Rp 18.76 trillion. That included installment-based gold financing (Cicil Emas) of Rp 10.32 trillion, up 106.36 percent, and gold pawning (Gadai Emas) of Rp 8.44 trillion, rising 44.19 percent.

Beyond financing, the bank also recorded strong growth in gold savings products. Managed balances in BSI’s E-mas savings reached 1.15 tons, with gold sales totaling 1.69 tons, while the number of gold savings customers climbed to around 200,000.

Anggoro has also pushed an aggressive digital transformation agenda to support growth across BSI’s consumer, wholesale and micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) segments. In addition to its flagship mobile platform BYOND by BSI, the lender has expanded its electronic channels, including automated teller machines, QRIS merchants and BSI Agen outlets, to improve access and transaction convenience.

BSI currently operates 1,039 physical outlets nationwide, complemented by a rapidly expanding digital footprint. As of the third quarter of 2025, users of BYOND by BSI reached 5.23 million, up 164 percent year-to-date. The bank has also deployed 5,859 ATMs and cash recycling machines, partnered with 126,000 BSI Agen, installed 22,000 electronic data capture (EDC) machines, and onboarded 527,000 QRIS merchants. Its digital platform for businesses, BEWIZE by BSI, has attracted about 34,000 users.

The rapid growth in customers, now totaling 22.6 million, has prompted BSI to continue strengthening its information technology systems and digital infrastructure to ensure stability, wider coverage and improved profitability.

Anggoro said BSI, as the country’s leading Islamic bank, aims to play a broader role in promoting social welfare and supporting inclusive economic growth, in line with the government’s Asta Cita development agenda. The bank has been actively involved in supporting gold downstreaming and monetization through its bullion services, with holdings now reaching about 1.7 tons.

BSI has also expanded Sharia-compliant microcredit through its KUR Syariah program, with outstanding financing of Rp 25 trillion serving more than 308,000 customers. In housing, the bank has channeled subsidized mortgages under the FLPP scheme, financing around 22,000 housing units with outstanding loans of Rp 3.3 trillion as part of the government’s three-million-homes program.

Other initiatives include financing for the Merah Putih Village Cooperatives, nutrition programs, green economy projects and zakat contributions aimed at broader social impact.

“As we approach the end of the year, we will continue to grow financing in sustainable and healthy segments, pursue continuous digital transformation to make BSI’s services faster, more efficient and inclusive, and strengthen human capital as well as IT and infrastructure capabilities,” Anggoro said.
