Jakarta. BPJS Ketenagakerjaan is calling for people in villages to own workers' social security, saying that this will help pave the way for a more inclusive financial ecosystem.

The Financial Services Authority (OJK) recently launched its Inclusive Financial Ecosystem program in Dolokgede Village. As the name suggests, this program seeks to boost financial literacy and inclusion in villages. BPJS Ketenagakerjaan said that it would give its full support to help villagers access financial products, including workers' social security.

“BPJS Ketenagakerjaan offers a wide range of social security, be it work accidents, retirement savings, job loss security, or death benefits. This will give people a security net so they can lead prosperous lives,” BPJS Ketenagakerjaan's president director Anggoro Eko Cahyo said at the program's kick-off ceremony.

BPJS Ketenagakerjaan also symbolically handed over the workers' social security membership to a local farmers’ group representative.

“Financial inclusion is key to address the existing gap so we wish to increase the number of people getting covered by our program. … BPJS Ketenagakerjaan is working with various parties. The Bojonegoro government also welcomed our program. The [participation rate] used to be around 30 percent, but it has now risen to 70 percent,” Anggoro said.

Hadi Purnomo, the head of East Java’s BPJS Ketenagakerjaan chapter, said that villages were instrumental to creating an inclusive financial ecosystem.

“That is why we will continue to convince all workers in the province to get covered by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan so they can work hard without having to worry. I also believe that a great partnership with stakeholders is key so Indonesians can live prosperous lives,” Hadi said.
