Jakarta. BP Batam handed over Wednesday new houses for three Rempang locals.

The three families were those who were willing to move voluntarily out of their original homes back in September 2023 to support the Rempang Eco-City project. BP Batam's acting head Purwiyanto thanked the people who had supported the Rempang project.

"A new house, new hope, hopefully with a new and better house, you will have more fortune and more happiness," Purwiyanto told the Rempang locals.

Purwiyanto said that a multi-stakeholder between the locals, the government, the corporate sector or MEG, as well as foreign investors, is key to making the Rempang Eco-City project a success. According to Purwiyanto, investment is also key to creating jobs and spur growth for local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Purwiyanto also told the MEG to make sure that the project should support the Rempang locals' welfare and generates jobs for Rempang youths.

Galang district head Ute Rambe also thanked BP Batam, saying that the people were beaming with joy when they received their new houses.

"We will soon see the handover [of houses] for other residents," Ute Rambe said.

BP Batam also distributed the basic necessities for the Rempang locals who received new houses in Tanjung Banun. The relocation to the Tanjung Banun housing will take place in stages. BP Batam reported that it had helped 202 families move to support the Rempang Eco-City project to date.
