Jakarta. Coal miners Adaro and AlamTri recently invited 1,000 orphans to break fast together.

The iftar event took place at At-Thohir Mosque in Cimanggis, Depok. The company's management and employees also joined the kids.

"We are holding this Iftar with 1,000 orphans as an expression of gratitude and sharing happiness in this blessed month. Ramadan teaches us to feel what they [the orphans] feel. Through this togetherness, we want to convey enthusiasm and motivate the kids to achieve their dreams," Garibaldi "Boy" Thohir, the board of trustees of Yayasan Amanah Bangun Negeri (YABN) and Alamtri vice president commissioner, said.

This also reflects the company's commitment to back the government's goal of preparing a future-ready youth as Indonesia seeks to achieve a golden era by 2045.

The companies have had this fast-breaking event for 14 years since 2011. The event is packaged as a food festival, featuring a sermon from Ustadz Hilman Fauzi and donation distribution to orphans.

At-Thohir Mosque was built back in 2016 by Boy Thohir and his two brothers to honor his late father Mochamad Thohir.

Beyond the iftar event, the two companies in partnership with YABN have also launched other initiatives meant to support human capital development in Indonesia. This includes character-based early childhood program and the distribution of 10,000 school uniform packages. They have also rolled out nutritionally balanced meals in schools within their operational areas.
