Bogor. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres stayed overnight at President Prabowo Subianto's private residence in Hambalang, West Java, on Sunday, during a three-day visit to Indonesia in the final months of his tenure as UN chief.

Guterres arrived in Jakarta on Saturday evening and visited Prabowo's residence on Sunday afternoon for talks covering multilateral cooperation, sustainable development and international security.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya confirmed that the UN chief was scheduled to spend the night at the president's home.

"According to the schedule, UN Secretary-General António Guterres will stay overnight at President Prabowo's Hambalang residence," Teddy said in a statement.

According to a statement published on the UN Secretary-General's official website, the two leaders discussed reforms to the multilateral system and progress toward achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

"The Secretary-General thanked Indonesia for its support for multilateralism and the United Nations, including through its contributions to peacekeeping operations," the UN statement said.

It added that Guterres recognized Indonesia's leadership in advancing innovative development financing and climate action.

The two leaders also discussed regional and global developments, including the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, according to the UN.

Peacekeeping and Multilateralism
Guterres, whose second and final term as UN secretary-general ends on Dec. 31, is also scheduled to pay tribute to Indonesian peacekeepers who lost their lives while serving in UN missions.

According to Indonesia's Foreign Ministry, he will lay a wreath at a memorial honoring 50 Indonesian personnel who died while serving under the UN flag.

The secretary-general is also expected to meet Indonesian troops preparing for deployment to the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

Indonesia has long contributed military and police personnel to UN peacekeeping operations, making international peacekeeping a central component of its engagement with the organization.

During his three-day visit, Guterres is also scheduled to deliver an address on the future of multilateralism at Indonesia's Foreign Ministry.

The visit comes as Guterres approaches the end of his decade-long leadership of the United Nations, having served two consecutive five-year terms beginning in January 2017.
