Semarang. A truck transporting 400,000 ballot papers met with an accident as it lost control while ascending a steep road in Semarang regency on Saturday, eventually careening into a ravine.

Eyewitnesses reported that the truck struggled to maintain traction while climbing and eventually reversed, careening off the road into a ravine. The vehicle overturned at the bottom of the ravine, scattering hundreds of carton boxes loaded with ballot papers. The driver sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital.

The truck was en route to Magelang when the incident occurred.

"This transport was carrying ballot papers designated for the Magelang Legislative Council’s electoral districts 1 and 6. The printing company confirmed the cargo comprised 800 boxes, each containing 500 ballot papers," Afiffudin, the council’s speaker, told reporters.

Following the mishap, authorities swiftly dispatched rescue teams to recover the scattered ballot papers, aided by local residents. Initially, police restricted journalists from capturing images of the scene but later altered their stance.
