Jakarta. The campaign team of presidential candidate Anies Baswedan said Wednesday that its spokesperson, Indra Charismiadji, has been arrested by prosecutors.

Indra is also a candidate for the House of Representatives representing the National Democratic Party (Nasdem).

“He was detained at the East Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office earlier today,” said Ari Yusuf, head of the legal team of the campaign.

Ari alleged the arrest was related to an earlier investigation related to a tax dispute involving Indra’s company, but he didn't elaborate.

Jakarta prosecutors’ office didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Reports said that Indra is facing a criminal investigation for alleged embezzlement and financial fraud.
