Jakarta. Royal Batavia Hospital has begun construction in the Cakung Tower Apartment area, East Jakarta, with a design inspired by Betawi culture. The project was officially inaugurated on Monday by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, together with the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Pratikno.

Pramono Anung said the hospital will serve both BPJS -- Indonesia’s national health insurance-- and non-BPJS patients with service quality equivalent to international hospitals. In addition, Royal Batavia Cakung Hospital is part of the rebranding program for all Jakarta provincial government-owned hospitals to meet international service standards.

“First of all, I am grateful to be here today with my friend Mr. Pratikno to initiate the construction of Royal Batavia Hospital. The hospital stands on an area of approximately 1.9 hectares, with 282 rooms, and consists of 13 floors,” said Pramono.

He explained that the design of Royal Batavia Hospital incorporates elements of Betawi culture. The hospital is expected to be completed no later than the end of 2027.

Pramono underlined that this hospital is special because it is the first in Jakarta to no longer use the regional public hospital designation, instead adopting the name Royal Batavia Hospital directly.

Meanwhile, Minister Pratikno said the construction of this hospital aligns with the central government’s vision of expanding healthcare access. “The central government is building dozens of hospitals in various regions. The Royal Batavia Hospital initiative greatly supports efforts to bring healthcare services closer to the community,” he said.

According to him, the presence of Royal Batavia Hospital not only increases healthcare facilities but also improves the quality of life for Jakarta residents.

At the same event, Pratikno also appreciated the free health screening program organized by the Jakarta Provincial Government. The screenings revealed that many residents were diagnosed with obesity, diabetes mellitus, and hypertension. Among adolescents, anemia remains relatively prevalent
