Jakarta. Former West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil prefers to seek reelection in the province rather than contest the gubernatorial election in Jakarta, a Golkar Party executive said on Wednesday.

Ridwan considers West Java as offering a better chance of winning than the capital city, according to Ace Hasan Syadzily, head of Golkar’s West Java chapter.

"Mr. Ridwan Kamil has told me that he is leaning towards West Java thus far," Ace said.

While the provincial chapter also encourages Ridwan to seek reelection, the final decision rests with the central command of the party and Chairman Airlangga Hartarto, he added.

"As for the West Java chapter, we want Mr. Ridwan Kamil to contest in West Java," Ace said.

Golkar needs to establish a coalition with another political party to meet the election threshold in West Java and earn the right to nominate a candidate.

Indonesia will hold simultaneous elections for governors, mayors, and regents across the country on November 27.
