Revenge Porn: Balinese Man Arrested after Posting Online Intimate Videos of Ex-Girlfriend
Denpasar. The Bali Police have arrested a man who posted sexually graphic videos of his ex-girlfriend without her consent on the Telegram channel.
The suspect, who is also depicted in the videos, is identified only by his initials PABU, 26.
“He is the ex-boyfriend of the victim who wanted to reconnect with her but got his number blocked. He was offended by that and threatened to publish the videos from his collections,” Bali Police cybercrime unit head Adjunct Chief Comr. Nanang Prihasmoko told a news conference in Denpasar on Tuesday.
The suspect did post at least three videos the former couple recorded in 2020 using a smartphone and they soon became viral on the internet, the officer said.
The woman, identified by her initials MPS, lodged a police complaint on April 25 and the investigation led to her ex.
"He once used the WhatsApp messaging app to threaten her to publish the videos,” Nanang said.
The suspect was arrested at his workplace in Denpasar a day after police received the complaint. He admitted to posting the videos, Nanang said.
Indonesia has no specific law on revenge porn but the suspect was charged with the Electronic Information and Transaction Law for unlawful distribution of obscenity contents through electronic means which carries a prison sentence of up to six years and a fine of up to Rp 1 billion ($68,000).
