Prabowo’s Cabinet Now Has Zero PDI-P Representation After Reshuffle
Jakarta. The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) no longer holds any position in President Prabowo Subianto’s cabinet, after the only party-affiliated official was dismissed in this week’s reshuffle.
Hendrar Prihadi, a PDI-P politician who served as head of the National Public Procurement Agency (LKPP), was officially removed from his post on September 17 and replaced by his deputy, Sarah Sadiqa.
The move leaves PDI-P -- the winner of the most votes in the last general election -- without representation in the government. Hendrar had led LKPP since 2022 under former President Joko Widodo.
PDI-P said it accepted the decision without objection. “Reshuffles are the president’s prerogative,” party official Andreas Hugo Pareira told Kompas on Thursday.
He argued that the party had already decided to act as a “balancing force” in Indonesian politics, choosing not to formally join the cabinet.
Despite the absence of PDI-P figures in his administration, President Prabowo has stressed reconciliation since taking office in October last year, keeping the door open to collaboration with all political parties, including PDI-P.
On April 7, Prabowo even visited the private residence of PDI-P chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri in Jakarta -- a symbolic gesture of reconciliation following a heated presidential and legislative election season. Close aides to the president said the visit was meant to show that national unity remains his top priority.
