Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto on Wednesday expressed his deepest condolences over the passing of former Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, paying his respects by signing a book of condolences at the Embassy of Qatar in Jakarta.

Prabowo arrived at the embassy at around 12:40 p.m. Jakarta time and was received by Foreign Minister Sugiono and Qatar's Ambassador to Indonesia, Sultan bin Mubarak Saad Al-Dosari.

The president then proceeded to a designated room to sign the condolence book, where he conveyed his sympathy and offered prayers for the late Sheikh Hamad.

"On behalf of the people and government of the Republic of Indonesia, I extend our deepest condolences on the passing of His Highness Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. May Almighty Allah grant him the highest place by His side," Prabowo wrote.

The president's visit to the embassy underscored Indonesia's respect for the late Sheikh Hamad and reflected the longstanding friendship and historical ties between Indonesia and Qatar.

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani passed away on Sunday at the age of 74. He served as Emir of Qatar from 1995 to 2013 before handing over the throne to his son, the current Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Widely regarded as the architect of Qatar's modernization, Sheikh Hamad transformed the Gulf nation from a modest pearl- and gas-producing state into one of the world's leading economic powers and an influential diplomatic player during his nearly two decades in office.

Under his leadership, bilateral relations between Indonesia and Qatar expanded significantly, particularly in energy investment, labor cooperation, and socio-religious partnerships.

Prabowo's visit to the Qatari Embassy reaffirmed Indonesia's commitment to preserving the spirit of friendship fostered by the late Sheikh Hamad while strengthening solidarity and cooperation between the two countries in the years ahead.
