Prabowo Inaugurates UAE-Funded Emirates Cardiology Hospital in Solo
Solo. President Prabowo Subianto on Wednesday inaugurated the Emirates Indonesia Cardiology Hospital (KEI), a state-of-the-art medical facility fully funded by the United Arab Emirates in Solo, Central Java.
Prabowo thanked the UAE government for the contribution, calling the hospital a symbol of the countries’ enduring friendship.
“This reflects the generosity of the President of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, who has always shown great affection for our nation since his youth,” Prabowo said in his remarks, delivered before Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the UAE Presidential Office for Development and Martyrs Affairs.
The KEI hospital, located inside Solo Techno Park, was initiated during the presidency of Joko Widodo. Prabowo said he felt fortunate to be the one inaugurating it.
“The development began during his administration. I am very lucky that I just have to inaugurate it. Fate cannot be denied,” he joked.
Prabowo added that Indonesia currently has only four hospitals that meet KEI’s standards, and the government aims to build 66 new hospitals matching or exceeding those standards.
The construction was financed entirely by the UAE, while operational management is under the Indonesian Health Ministry. The total grant amounted to Rp 417.3 billion (approximately $25 million), covering both the construction and procurement of international-standard medical equipment.
KEI features:
- interventional cardiology services
- cardiac surgery
- full diagnostic facilities (CT scan, MRI, echocardiography, treadmill, holter monitoring, 4D ultrasound)
- a hemodialysis unit
- intensive treatment for heart-failure patients
- Future Handover to the City Government
Solo Mayor Respati Ardi said the hospital will be temporarily managed by the Health Ministry while the city government prepares medical personnel for a full handover.
“I thank the Health Minister for handling the temporary management and giving us four years to prepare doctors and medical staff before the handover to the city government,” Respati said.
To maintain service standards, KEI is currently supported by medical personnel — doctors and nurses — from dr. Sardjito Hospital in Yogyakarta.
“The management of KEI will eventually be transferred to the Solo municipal government because the land belongs to the people of Solo,” Respati added.
