Photo Spot in Ijen Crater Closes After Chinese Tourist Falls to Death
Jakarta. A famous photo spot at Banyuwangi’s Ijen Crater, which is known for its blue fire phenomenon, is now closed after a Chinese tourist died falling from a cliff.
Chinese tourist Huang Lihong died on Saturday morning after accidentally stepping on her skirt and falling off a cliff. Lihong at the time was posing for photos at the edge of the crater. She was also traveling with her husband.
The park has now blocked people from entering the Sunrise of Java photo spot. The park’s management cannot say when they will reopen the place. Cops have put a police line around the area. The park is also temporarily closing tourist activities near its hiking track, starting on April 28-30.
“Natural tourism activities, hiking, and research will resume starting on May 1,” East Java’s conservation center representative Purwantono said on Tuesday.
