Jakarta. Pelita Air Service is investigating the crash of a fuel-carrying aircraft in North Kalimantan province after the plane completed a delivery mission to a remote border area.

The aircraft went down in Krayan Timur district, Nunukan regency, on Thursday, according to the airline. No passengers were on board. The flight was operated as a charter cargo service transporting fuel to frontier regions.

Pelita Air’s Corporate Secretary, Patria Rhamadonna, said the company is coordinating with relevant authorities as the investigation proceeds. The aircraft was piloted by a single pilot and carried no cabin crew.

“The flight was a fuel cargo service operated by one pilot, without cabin crew or passengers,” Patria said in a statement. “The aircraft used was an Air Tractor AT-802 with registration PK-PAA.”

She added that the plane was part of Indonesia’s “One-Price Fuel” program, which aims to ensure equal fuel prices across the archipelago, including hard-to-reach border areas. The aircraft had just completed fuel distribution to Long Bawan and was returning to Juwata Airport when the incident occurred.

Pelita Air did not immediately disclose details on the pilot’s condition or the cause of the crash. Further updates will be released as the investigation advances, the company said.
