Deli Serdang, North Sumatra. Deli Serdang and the North Sumatra Police are investigating the death of Rindu Syahputra Sinaga, a 14-year-old student from State Junior High School 1 STM Hilir, who reportedly died after being punished with 100 squat jumps by his teacher.

The police plan to exhume the victim's body for an autopsy scheduled for Tuesday, according to Hadi Wahyudi, Head of the Public Relations Division of the North Sumatra Police. He said that investigators have already questioned several witnesses, including the victim's family, school friends, and teachers.

"The police are currently taking investigative steps by interviewing the family, peers, and school staff. This process is ongoing, and we want to ensure the facts regarding what actually happened," Hadi told Beritasatu.com on Monday.

Hadi also revealed that they have received preliminary diagnostic results from Sembiring General Hospital, which will aid in the ongoing investigation.

According to the medical summary from Sembiring General Hospital, the primary diagnosis indicates a decrease in consciousness due to electrolyte disturbance, a fever possibly caused by typhoid, and a differential diagnosis of trauma to the liver and swelling in the right thigh due to trauma.

Suratman, the principal of the school, emphasized that physical punishments, including squat jumps, have long been prohibited in educational settings.

"Such physical punishment should not be permitted anymore. We, as a school, feel very regretful about this incident," Suratman said on Saturday.

The victim's family attorney, Dwi Ngai Sinaga, expressed that the family seeks legal action regarding the case.

"The family, especially the mother of the victim, has firmly stated the desire for justice to be upheld. As their legal representative, we remain open to mediation, but legal proceedings must take place first," Dwi explained.

Rindu Syahputra Sinaga died on Sept. 26, reportedly after being punished by a teacher identified as SWH for failing to complete assigned homework. The day after the punishment, the victim complained of pain and ultimately passed away at Sembiring General Hospital in Deli Tua, Medan.
