No Need for Resurfacing: Mandalika Gears Up for MotoGP
Lombok. Indonesia’s Mandalika motor racing circuit on the resort island of Lombok is in the final stages of preparation for the MotoGP race scheduled for September 27-29.
Mandalika Grand Prix Association CEO Priandhi Satria said the preparations are focused on cleaning and repainting the track closer to the event date.
"The first phase of preparations covers the grandstand, service roads, pit lane, and paddock area," Priandhi said. "We don’t need to resurface the track because the asphalt is designed to last five years."
In the second phase, workers will clean the track using sweeper trucks to remove dirt and debris.
The next step is to soften the gravel, which has become firmer due to temperature changes and rainfall.
"We will be softening the gravel so that it can trap motorcycles smoothly," Priandhi said.
The repainting is mainly for aesthetic purposes, enhancing the circuit’s appearance with the local batik pattern called Sasambo and the dominant red and white colors on the barriers.
Additionally, Tribunes A and B will have extended roofs to better protect spectators from the hot tropical sun in Lombok, where temperatures can reach up to 40 degrees Celsius during the day, Priandhi said.
