No Indonesian Victim in Oman Shooting: Gov’t
Jakarta. The government said Tuesday that the recent shooting in Oman did not claim any Indonesian victims.
The Omani police reported earlier today that a shooting incident had occurred in the capital Muscat, specifically near a mosque in the Al-Wadi Al-Kabir area. The initial death toll reached four people. The attack also wounded several others. The police, however, did not say the motive nor the suspect of the shooting. Such attacks are also rare in Oman.
Following the incident, the Indonesian Embassy in Muscat immediately contacted the local authorities. The embassy has also been in touch with the local Indonesian community. Based on the reports, no Indonesian citizen was among the victims, according to the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
“To this very moment, there is no information that there is an Indonesian victim in the incident,” Judha Nugraha, the ministry’s director for citizen protection, said.
The embassy has urged all Indonesians in Muscat to remain vigilant and heed the directions of the local authorities. Indonesian nationals should also contact the embassy’s hotline at +968 9600 0210 in case of emergency, according to Judha.
