Mother of Golkar Lawmaker Found Dead, Police Launch Murder Probe
Indramayu. The mother of Golkar Party politician Bambang Hermanto was found dead with both hands and legs tied inside her home in the West Java town of Indramayu late on Thursday, prompting the police to launch a murder investigation.
A suspect was arrested in less than 24 hours and he admitted to murdering the victim identified as Casinih, 62, police said.
“We have conducted the crime scene investigation and questioned at least six witnesses. The suspect was often asked to help clean the house,” Indramayu Police Chief Adjunct Chief Comr. Fahri Siregar told reporters.
“During the interrogation, [the suspect] admitted his crime. We are still investigating the motive but he said he got offended [by the victim],” Fahri said without going into details. “The victim and her children knew the suspect in person because he was often asked to do cleaning works in the house.”
The identity of the suspect has yet to be disclosed other than his initial T.
The body was first found by one of the victim’s children who stayed at the same house.
Bambang, a lawmaker at the House of Representatives’ budget and legislation committee, said he was on an official trip when the shocking news arrived.
“I received the news on Thursday night and immediately went home. I arrived at around 2:00 a.m. It’s obvious that the cause of the death is unnatural although I don’t know exactly [my mother’s] conditions when she was found,” Bambang said.
Bambang added he last communicated with his mother on Tuesday afternoon when she told him that she needed someone to help her in the house via WhatsApp messaging app.
“I hope the police will conclude the investigation soon. I have no idea about the motive for the murder,” he said.
