Jakarta. The General Election Commission (KPU) completed the vote recapitulation for overseas polling stations, excluding Malaysia, on Monday.

KPU Chairman Hasyim Asyari said the overseas vote counting has been completed according to the schedule. Out of the 128 Overseas Election Committees (PPLN), 127 have finished the national-level recapitulation, with only the PPLN in Kuala Lumpur remaining to conduct a redo election (PSU) due to significant discrepancies in voter data.

"We plan to hold the redo election in Kuala Lumpur using two methods, namely the Polling Station (TPS) method and the mobile ballot box (KSK). The plan is set to take place on the same day, Sunday, March 10," he said.

KPU has not yet published the data from the recapitulation of the 2024 elections on its website. However, based on the latest quick count data from KPU, presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto is leading with 285,331 votes, followed by Anies Baswedan with 96,438 votes and Ganjar Pranowo with 94,703 votes. The quick counts from overseas represent only 56 percent of the 3,000 polling stations (TPS).

The KPU is seeking assistance from President Joko Widodo to help it organize a redo election in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This request is due to Malaysia having specific policies regarding the political activities of other countries held within its borders.

Hasyim added that the basis for holding a redo election is the Permanent Voter List (DPT) determined on June 20 and 21, 2023. After analysis by the KPU, the Overseas DPT for the redo election in Kuala Lumpur is determined to consist of 62,217 voters.

The vote count in Kuala Lumpur is scheduled for March 12, eight days before the overall tally of the presidential and legislative elections is set to be certified.

Last week, the National Police announced criminal charges against seven election officials accused of tampering with voter data during the Indonesian nationals' poll in Kuala Lumpur. This incident resulted in the majority of the approximately 491,000 registered voters in the Malaysian capital being unable to cast their votes due to the failure of absentee ballots to reach them.
