Jakarta. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Thursday urged citizens who suspect election fraud to bring evidence to the Election Oversight Board (Bawaslu). His remarks came a day after Indonesians across the archipelago cast their ballots.

According to Jokowi, people can also file a lawsuit to challenge the election results at the Constitutional Court.

“If there is evidence [of election fraud], report it to Bawaslu. If there is evidence, take it to the Constitutional Court,” Jokowi said in Jakarta on Thursday.

Jokowi said there had been measures to mitigate any election fraud. As a case in point, polling stations had official witnesses who would monitor the vote-counting processes. These witnesses are appointees of competing political parties or candidates.

“There were Bawaslu officials and police officers at the polling stations. You [media] are free to record it. I believe such multi-layered security will get rid of any possibility of fraud,” Jokowi said.

“Don’t just yell that there is fraud. Report them,” Jokowi said.

About 204.8 million Indonesians cast their votes to pick the next president as well as the national, provincial, and district lawmakers. Preliminary results showed that Prabowo Subianto, whose running mate is Jokowi's son Gibran Rakabuming Raka, is in the lead. Prabowo was facing Former Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and Former Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo.
