Solo, C. Java. Former Indonesian President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has officially joined the global advisory board of Bloomberg New Economy, a platform dedicated to addressing economic transformation in emerging markets.

The initiative, launched in 2018, aims to bridge the shifting centers of economic power from West to East and from North to South, bringing together current and former heads of state, senior ministers, multinational CEOs, and innovators to tackle global economic challenges.

Jokowi revealed that the invitation came early this year. “I received the offer in January and accepted it. In March, Michael Bloomberg personally called to congratulate me on joining the Bloomberg New Economy global advisory board,” Jokowi told Beritasatu.com on Tuesday.

The former president said he intends to raise issues around economic intelligence, a process he described as vital for collaboration and rapid decision-making in government and business. “Economic intelligence is crucial. It allows collaboration, assessment, and faster economic decision-making,” Jokowi said.

He highlighted the importance of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, 5G, and the Internet of Things, as well as the use of real-time economic data. “These are required by both countries and companies. I believe these will be central topics in upcoming Bloomberg New Economy forums,” he added.

Jokowi also signaled that Indonesia’s experience with economic initiatives could serve as a model for other countries. “Ideas that have proven effective in Indonesia or in ASEAN countries could be valuable for implementation globally,” he said.

Joining Jokowi on the advisory board are prominent figures including former Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong, former US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, Moderna co-founder Noubar Afeyan, and Soros Fund Management CEO and CIO Dawn Fitzpatrick.

The Bloomberg New Economy Forum will return to Singapore from November 19-21, 2025, under the theme “Thriving in an Age of Extremes.” The event will feature plenary sessions, discussion groups, and opportunities for participants to build partnerships and scale innovations aimed at driving global prosperity.

For Jokowi, participation in the forum represents a continuation of his post-presidency engagement in global economic discourse. When asked about potential travel commitments, he affirmed his willingness to attend international events when invited.

Bloomberg New Economy describes itself as a worldwide platform for dialogue on economic transformation, convening leaders from government, business, and civil society to confront the greatest challenges to global prosperity and collaborate on solutions.
