Jakarta. A recent poll by the Indonesian Survey Circle (LSI) of Denny JA indicated that 80.8 percent of respondents are satisfied with the performance of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in his final year in office.

Jokowi’s approval rating in the late January poll improved by 2.2 points from November, but marking a slight decline of 1.1 points compared with the December results.

LSI researcher Adjie Al Faraby said on Tuesday that Jokowi’s strong job approval rating gave a boost to Prabowo Subianto’s presidential bid as the candidate is teaming up with the president’s son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, as his running mate.

"Prabowo and Gibran’s electability continues to improve because those who approve the president’s performance tend to vote for the pair," Adjie said.

He added that 55.5 percent of Jokowi’s supporters now identify themselves as Prabowo’s voters, compared with 47.7 percent in December.

The survey was conducted from January 16-26 involving 1,200 respondents countrywide, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.9 percentage points.

Jokowi, who has been in office since 2014, is set to retire in October and will not seek reelection due to the constitutional term limit.
