Jakarta. Indonesia will redesign and recolor its passports, with the new versions set to be issued on the country’s 80th Independence Anniversary on Aug. 17, 2025.

“This is being prepared for Aug. 17, 2025, and the design is planned to be revealed on Aug. 17, 2024,” Director General of Immigration at the Law and Human Rights Ministry Silmy Karim said on Friday.

Silmy explained that the redesign and recoloring of Indonesian passports aim to inspire improvement and progress. He emphasized the Immigration Department’s commitment to providing the best and most secure passports, noting that the changes will include enhanced security features.

According to Silmy, international regulations require that passport security be strengthened every three years. As part of these enhancements, the new passports will feature security upgrades, including changes in color and other verification processes.

“For example, there will be UV light features or additional holograms. Details on how the photos will be printed will be provided later,” Silmy added.

Currently, Indonesian passports have light blue or turquoise covers for general passports, blue covers for official passports, and black covers for diplomatic passports. The cover of the current Indonesian passport features a gold Garuda bird emblem. As of January 2020, Indonesian passports provide visa-free access to 85 countries and territories.
