Indonesia to Host D-8 Forum on Two-State Solution for Israel–Palestine
Jakarta. Indonesia will hold a special forum to discuss a two-state solution as part of this year’s Developing Eight (D-8) Summit, aiming to advance efforts to resolve the Israel–Palestine conflict.
Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir said the forum would examine the latest developments in the conflict and explore concrete steps that D-8 or member states can take collectively, including measures agreed within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OKI).
“Of course, the end goal is a two-state solution,” Arrmanatha said at the Foreign Ministry in Jakarta on Monday. This solution calls for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state that exists alongside Israel.
Arrmanatha, commonly known as Tata, stressed that Indonesia and fellow D-8 members — many of which are also part of the OKI —remain committed to preparing joint actions to realize the two-state framework.
One key focus will be ensuring that Israel’s attacks in the Gaza Strip cease in line with the existing ceasefire agreement. “We want to ensure that humanitarian aid can continue to enter Gaza,” he said.
Tata added that the forum is also expected to help address the health crisis in Gaza while encouraging the ceasefire to be maintained on a sustainable basis.
Regarding the possible discussion of a proposed Board of Peace initiated by US President Donald Trump, Arrmanatha did not provide details but noted that recent dynamics and developments in Gaza could become part of the D-8 Summit agenda.
Earlier, Foreign Minister Sugiono said the summit is expected to deliver concrete cooperation, particularly in strengthening the economy and producing tangible outcomes that directly benefit member states.
Indonesia currently holds the D-8 chairmanship for the 2026–2027 period under the theme “Navigating Global Shifts: Strengthening Equality, Solidarity, and Cooperation for Shared Prosperity.”
The D-8 was established in 1997 by eight developing countries — Indonesia, Bangladesh, Egypt, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey — most of which are also OKI members. The organization aims to enhance cooperation in economic development, trade, and broader development to promote inclusive and sustainable growth.
