Indonesia Sends Prayers Following Iranian President Raisi’s Helicopter Crash
Jakarta. Indonesia is sending its thoughts and prayers after a helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi crashed in northern Iran on Sunday local time.
The incident had sparked global reactions as search operations were underway, although state media reported there were no signs of life at the crash site. Indonesia has issued a formal statement, saying that it is following closely how the situation develops with “deep concerns”, according to a statement issued by the Foreign Affairs Ministry on Monday.
“The government of Indonesia is following closely with deep concern the reports of an incident involving a helicopter carrying the President of Iran, H.E. Ebrahim Raisi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, H.E. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and accompanying delegations,” the statement reads.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with them and the people of Iran.”
Raisi at the time was traveling in heavy fog after visiting a dam on the country’s border with Azerbaijan.
In 2023, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo hosted Raisi for a visit to the Bogor Palace. he trip marked Raisi’s first official visit to Indonesia since being appointed as Iran’s eighth president in 2021.
