Jakarta. Indonesia on Wednesday officially revoked its pandemic status for Covid-19 as the serosurvey has shown people already have developed antibodies against the virus.

“After more than three years of fighting the Covid-19 pandemic, as of today, the government decided to revoke the pandemic status and we are now moving towards an endemic phase,” President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said in a recorded press statement.

“We are making this decision by taking into account the number of new Covid-19 confirmed cases that are now almost zero. Serosurvey has also shown that 99 percent of Indonesians have developed antibodies against Covid-19. The WHO [World Health Organization] has declared an end to Covid-19 as a public health emergency of international concern,” Jokowi said.

Despite the revoked pandemic status, Jokowi also told Indonesians to not let their guard down and continue to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

“We hope this decision can give a major boost to the national economy and improve the socio-economic lives of our people,” Jokowi said.

As of June 20, Indonesia has around 6.8 million confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic. The government, however, reported 129 fresh Covid-19 cases on Tuesday. Indonesia has administered 69 million third doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to its population. About 3.3 million people have received their fourth dose of the vaccine, according to the Covid-19 Special Task Force.
