Surabaya. The Indonesian government has begun evacuating 100 of its citizens from Nepal following a week of widespread unrest in the Himalayan nation.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the group includes 57 Indonesian nationals residing in Nepal and 43 delegates who had traveled to Kathmandu for a series of international meetings.

“The repatriation process is being expedited. So far, there have been no reports of Indonesian casualties,” said Judha Nugraha, Director for the Protection of Citizens at the ministry, during a visit to Surabaya on Thursday.

Judha added that the Indonesian Embassy in Dhaka, which oversees Nepal, has been coordinating closely with local authorities, the Honorary Consul in Kathmandu, and the Indonesian community. “Conditions are gradually improving and the airport has reopened, allowing the evacuation to proceed,” he said.

Eighteen Indonesians have already departed from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu and are scheduled to arrive at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang on Friday.

Among those evacuated were participants of the “3rd Exchange of the Renewable Energy Mini-Grids in South-South and Triangular Cooperation (ENTRI) Program,” held in Kathmandu from September 8–12, 2025. Delegates included officials from the Energy and Health ministries, academics, and members of professional associations.

The crisis in Nepal began after restrictions on media access sparked youth-led demonstrations across several regions. The protests turned violent after security forces launched a crackdown, leaving more than a dozen demonstrators dead and escalating public anger.
